Starting Promptober

Day 1: Photo

Lee noticed that her grandmother always looked so refined  in old photos. She turned the oversized album pages, glancing at the still faces and smiles. Her grandmother’s hair was never out of place and her lipstick was always in a bright array. “How did she do it?” Lee said to herself. She once again turned a page of thick photo paper to reveal another family gathering trapped in time. Lee looked at a photo of her grandmother who was smiling away from the camera. She must have been laughing with someone off to the left of the frame of the picture. Her smile was wide and lovely, her hair was flowing in the wind. It’s funny how a photograph captures such a sudden simple moment. A moment you might miss in real time. Lee touched the corner of the image worn and yellow by time and the sun. “Oh how I wish we could say hello again” Lee said out loud as she turned the photo album closed.

I am trying my hand at promptober this year! I am in the process of getting the full list of prompts from a fellow blogger. Once I have that, I will post it here. For now, I made up my own prompt for day one and started writing! I would love for you to join along and post your own works in the comments!

Do you like to hear about the writing process? I would share it but I don’t know if anyone finds that interesting. If you would like for me to talk more about what I was thinking while writing, please let me know in the comments 🙂
