And Fire – A Free Verse Poem by Leona

Maple and cranberry leaves

Taste the melting

Snow

It seemed to radiate

A certain amount

Of ancient hickory

And fire

I lifted the last leaf

From the toadstool

To find the ancient city

Of the fae folk

That only appeared in

The autumn light

It’s funny cause I wrote this as a response to an online magazine. I didn’t feel as though it really fit the prompt so I decided to share it here instead. Sometimes prompts take me to random places that I didn’t expect. I’ve been thinking a lot about writing and I’ve been trying to dedicate significant time to the craft. As I do so, I find myself enjoying it more and more. It’s a good place to be and I hope to continue to grow and dream of new adventures to write about.
